Schools shouldn't choose between energy bills and student programs.
Energy is one of the largest non-personnel costs at most schools. When utility rates rise, something has to give — and too often it's after-school programs, classroom supplies, or building maintenance. Solar can permanently flip that math, but the upfront cost stops most schools cold.
RE-volv exists to remove that barrier — and to turn solar into a teaching tool.
Solar that doubles as STEM curriculum
Beyond the savings, a school solar installation is a real-world physics, environmental science, and civics lesson — visible to students every day.
Zero Upfront Cost
RE-volv covers the entire installation cost. You pay a fixed monthly amount, typically 15-30% lower than your current utility bill from day one.
Community-Funded
Funded by climate-conscious individuals and foundations. As you make payments, the funds revolve to the next nonprofit's solar project.
Recoverable Grant
Through our recoverable grant, you get the financing benefits of a grant with the multiplier impact of a revolving fund. Learn more →

From a partner organization
"We were spending more on electricity than on classroom technology. Going solar through RE-volv didn't just balance the budget — it gave our science teachers a working laboratory on the roof."
Common questions
Does this work for charter schools? Public schools?
Charter schools and 501(c)(3) private/independent schools fit our model directly. Public school districts have different governance — we can refer you to district-friendly programs.
Can we install during the school year?
Most installations happen during summer or extended breaks to minimize disruption. The actual rooftop work takes a few weeks.
Can students learn from the installation?
Yes — solar systems we install include a public-facing energy dashboard. Many partner schools build curriculum units around it (energy production, weather effects, climate impact).
What if our roof needs replacement?
If the roof is within 5 years of replacement, we recommend doing both at once (often the same crew). Solar adds minimal weight (~2-4 lbs/sq ft) and protects the roof beneath.
How does the IRA direct-pay benefit help schools?
If your school owns the system, it's eligible for the 30% Investment Tax Credit as a direct cash payment from the IRS. For mid-size schools, this can be $30,000-$100,000+ back.
Will solar save our school money?
Yes — typically 15-50% reduction in energy costs starting day one. Over 25 years, the cumulative savings often fund a teacher salary or two.
