Communities need places to go when the grid fails. Most can't afford to be that place.

Heat waves, hurricanes, wildfires, and ice storms knock out power for days at a time — and the people who suffer most are the elderly, medically dependent, and low-income families. Community resilience hubs (libraries, community centers, faith centers) can fill the gap, but only if they have backup power.

Solar + battery storage solves this — and at zero upfront cost through RE-volv's recoverable grant model.

The Solution

Solar + storage = community resilience

Be the place your neighborhood can count on when the grid fails.

Zero Upfront Cost

RE-volv covers the entire installation cost. You pay a fixed monthly amount, typically 15-30% lower than your current utility bill from day one.

Community-Funded

Funded by climate-conscious individuals and foundations. As you make payments, the funds revolve to the next nonprofit's solar project.

Recoverable Grant

Through our recoverable grant, you get the financing benefits of a grant with the multiplier impact of a revolving fund. Learn more →

Real Impact

From a partner organization

"When the grid went down for three days last summer, our resilience hub kept the lights on for two hundred neighbors who needed somewhere safe. The solar + storage RE-volv installed paid for itself in that one event — emotionally, if not financially."

FAQ

Common questions

What is a community resilience hub?

A trusted, community-serving facility designated to provide critical services (cooling, charging, communication, refuge) during emergencies and grid outages. Often community centers, libraries, faith centers, or schools.

Why do resilience hubs need solar + storage?

Without batteries, most solar systems shut off during grid outages (anti-islanding rule). Adding storage keeps the lights on, devices charged, and the building operational when neighbors need it most.

How long can a solar+storage system run during an outage?

Typical hub systems provide 24-72 hours of backup for critical loads (lights, outlets, refrigeration, communication). Larger systems can run indefinitely if the sun is out.

Does our hub need formal designation?

If your nonprofit is designated as a resilience hub by your state, county, city, or a coalition (USDN, Resilient Cities Catalyst, etc.), prioritize this program. If not, our standard solar program may still fit.

What about Medical Baseline customers?

Hubs serving medically dependent neighbors (oxygen, dialysis, refrigerated medication) are especially high-impact. We size storage to specifically support these critical loads.

Can this stack with FEMA, BRIC, CDBG-DR, or state resilience grants?

Yes — many partners stack our recoverable grant with disaster preparedness or resilience funding. We provide the documentation funders need.

Ready to be the place your neighborhood can count on?
