Minneapolis Friends Meeting in Minnesota has been around since 1863, providing a gathering space for Quaker worship. The congregation has over 90 active participants with weekly Sunday worship rooted in their mission of offering spiritual nurture and support after the manner of Friends. Beyond meetings for worship, the congregation is heavily involved in supporting social justice initiatives in the surrounding community, such as hosting the recent East Philips Neighborhood Institute Urban Farm event.
Individuals of Minneapolis Meeting had long been interested in reducing the meetinghouse's environmental footprint by installing solar panels. But it wasn't until members of the congregation and its property committee learned about RE-volv’s solar financing options, which, in combination with savings through the Inflation Reduction Act’s Direct Pay solar tax credit, that the financial barriers became surmountable.
This summer, the Meeting completed their 12 kW solar installation, saving them nearly $50,000 on their electricity bills over time. They are thrilled to funnel savings into growing meeting offerings and outreach in the community.
Friends Meeting looks forward to hosting a community ribbon cutting to celebrate their system next spring.
