Development Manager

Primary Location: San Francisco, CA

The Development Manager Role

RE-volv seeks an experienced and highly motivated Development Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who has managed successful long-term fundraising efforts, with an emphasis on foundations, corporations, and major donors. The Development Manager will lead RE-volv’s fundraising program, managing all aspects of RE-volv’s fund development strategy to raise our $2M+ and growing budget. The right candidate will have a strong background in clean energy, environmental and climate justice solutions, great communication and writing skills, a creative spark, attention to detail, and passion for RE-volv’s mission.

About RE-volv

RE-volv is a nonprofit climate and energy justice organization that helps community-based nonprofits around the country go solar. While doing so, we educate community members about the benefits of clean energy, and train the next generation of clean energy leaders. RE-volv empowers communities by providing financing for the upfront costs of installing solar energy systems to local nonprofits allowing them to immediately save on their electricity costs. This innovative solar financing model allows nonprofits to better use those dollars towards serving their community. With each nonprofit solar project, RE-volv aims to engage and benefit as many people as possible and in doing so, help change the climate and clean energy narrative in America.

RE-volv is a U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Innovation Network awardee, is an inaugural member of the White House National Community Solar Partnership, and winner of the OpenIDEO Climate Innovation Fellowship.

Position Details

This is a full-time position based in our San Francisco office. It requires creativity, independence, collaboration and initiative. Compensation includes an annual salary commensurate with experience, benefits, and generous paid time off. RE-volv also provides the last Friday of every month off for personal care, which we call RE-charge Days. RE-volv allows flexible work hours and is committed to supporting a good work-life balance. Position starts as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and spearhead annual and long-term fundraising strategy in collaboration with ED
  • Research grantmakers and maintain up-to-date database of potential funding sources
  • Write grant proposals and letters of inquiry to foundation, government, and corporate funders
  • Research potential major gift donors and manage solicitation efforts
  • Work with ED to develop and maintain relationships with donors and grantmakers
  • Support Board of Directors in donor outreach strategy
  • Work with Communications team to develop donor stewardship and communications materials
  • Track and manage incoming donations; maintain donor database in Salesforce
  • Schedule and organize donor cultivation events
  • Manage grant reporting process
  • Represent RE-volv by speaking at events
  • Be a collaborative member of a small team working to achieve RE-volv’s mission

Skills and Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience fundraising, cultivating donor relationships, and grant-writing required
  • Proven track record of individually leading significant fundraising efforts
  • Experience fundraising from major gift donors, foundation, government, and corporate supporters
  • Experience managing donor information and grant applications in Salesforce
  • Deep understanding of the clean energy and climate justice funding landscape
  • Extremely well-organized and good at planning and meeting deadlines over long time horizons
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Comfortable presenting to large and small audiences
  • Ability to self-manage deadlines and tasks
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting renewable energy, mitigating climate change, and building an equitable and sustainable society

Community Programs Manager

Primary Location: San Francisco

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Description

The Community Programs Manager will manage all community engagement programming and activities including: our Solar Ambassador fellowship program, community partner relationships, and community engagement events. This position will be responsible for preparing Solar Ambassador fellows to be leaders in the clean energy economy with marketable skills that make them top candidates for industry leaders. In addition, this person will work with outside partners and nonprofit clients to host events that deepen RE-volv's ties with the communities we serve. The ideal candidate will have experience in volunteer and program management, working with students, curriculum development and training, community organizing around solar and/or clean energy, and the ability to learn quickly and creatively problem solve. They will have exemplary communication and facilitation skills, possess organizational skills with a high attention to detail, and bring a positive attitude to the team.

RE-volv's Solar Ambassador college fellowship program is now entering its tenth year. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, the opportunity for communities to benefit from clean energy is greater than ever before. To meet the needs of the moment, RE-volv is expanding the goals of the fellowship, so that our Solar Ambassador college fellows can provide even more value to their communities. In addition to continuing to help nonprofits go solar, Ambassadors will also be working closely with solar installers, policy advocacy groups, workforce development providers, and resiliency trainers to ensure the maximum amount of awareness building with each community we work in. Ultimately, RE-volv's goal is to expand the program beyond college students and create a toolkit than any volunteer group in America could utilize to deliver clean energy projects to nonprofits in their community.

Position Responsibilities:

The Community Programs Manager will be responsible for managing the Solar Ambassador fellowship program. In addition, they will also manage all of our community engagement events and related partnerships.

Solar Ambassador Fellowship
  • Recruit and onboard Solar Ambassador teams with a focus on diversifying participants to include students from non-four-year degree programs, community colleges, HBCUs, and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).
  • Train Solar Ambassadors to help spearhead nonprofit solar projects in their communities, host community engagement events, and advocate for equitable solar policy.
  • Partner with solar education and policy advocacy organizations to coordinate efforts of Solar Ambassadors.
  • Facilitate and maintain training curriculum & modules.
  • Maintain and track fellowship requirements, participation, & completion.
  • Develop and maintain employment and career development resources and opportunities for Solar Ambassadors.
  • Coordinate and host monthly webinars and fellowship learning sessions.
  • Work with leading solar trade associations and companies to establish streamlined processes for vetting and hiring Solar Ambassador alumni for open positions.
  • Develop training materials and Ambassador toolkits with the goal of growing the program beyond college students to include a diverse set of volunteers.
Events coordination
  • Work with nonprofit staff and when applicable Solar Ambassadors to organize ribbon cutting events for RE-volv's nonprofit solar projects.
  • Event coordination will include inviting speakers, coordinating press, videographers, food, and community education programming.
  • Research and coordinate potential collaboration opportunities to engage community members with local solar workforce development providers.
  • Coordinate solar education events where local solar installers can present, answer questions, and offer free solar quotes to community members. Any ensuing projects would result in a donation to the nonprofit from the installer.
  • In cases where solar plus storage are installed, host resiliency workshops with nonprofit staff and any relevant partner organizations.
  • Coordinate "listening tours" with local climate and energy justice policy advocacy organizations to ensure community voices are leading local policy decisions and frameworks.
Partnerships
  • Liaise with nonprofit clients to learn about their programming and ties to the community.
  • Project manage solar ribbon cutting events with nonprofits and community partners.
  • Collaborate with communications staff to elevate nonprofit solar stories in community and beyond.
  • Build and maintain relationships with advocacy organizations in RE-volv's areas of service.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in volunteer program management, community engagement, clean energy policy advocacy and/or event coordination
  • Demonstrated commitment to climate and energy justice and professional experience working towards an equitable clean energy transition
  • Volunteer training experience, including curriculum development
  • Proven track record leading event planning
  • Experience with and understanding of successful community organizing principles
  • Excellent written and phone communication skills
  • Excellent Salesforce skills
  • Ability to self-manage deadlines and tasks
