The Sikh Association of Fresno has served as a spiritual, cultural, and service-oriented home for the Central Valley’s Sikh community since 1986. With over 1,400 members, the Gurdwara’s mission is rooted in Sikh principles of seva (selfless service), equality, and spiritual discipline. The Sikh Association is committed not only to nurturing faith and tradition but also to uplifting the broader Fresno community through inclusive, community-driven initiatives.

In addition to weekly Sunday services and spiritual programs, the Sikh Association of Fresno supports a number of impactful community efforts, including:

  • Daily Langar (free community meals) open to all, regardless of background or religion
  • Health fairs and blood drives in partnership with local providers
  • Youth Kirtan and Punjabi language classes
  • Disaster relief fundraising for both local and global crises
  • Interfaith dialogue and education to promote understanding and harmony

In January 2025, the nonprofit took a major step toward environmental stewardship by installing a 182 kW solar energy system on its Gurdwara campus. This solar array is projected to save the organization $2.67 million over its lifetime, while avoiding approximately 10.3 million pounds of CO₂ emissions—the equivalent of planting over 78,000 trees.

With support from RE-volv’s solar financing program and the federal Direct Pay incentive, the system is expected to offset nearly all of the Gurdwara’s electricity usage. The savings from going solar will allow the nonprofit to invest further in community service, expand educational offerings, and enhance their health and food programs.

This bold step underscores their commitment to sarbat da bhala—the well-being of all. By embracing solar, the Sikh Association of Fresno is not only lowering its carbon footprint but also inspiring other faith-based and cultural organizations to join the clean energy movement
