Our Current Campaign: The River Revitalization Foundation

   The organization that the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Solar Ambassador Team is collaborating with this year is the River Revitalization Foundation (RRF). RRF is a nonprofit land trust dedicated to the preservation, conservation, enjoyment, and revitalization of Milwaukee’s rivers and their surrounding environments. The UWM Solar Ambassadors are assisting RRF in their goals of supporting and utilizing clean energy. We are campaigning to raise $10,567 to cover the upfront costs of RRF’s 2.5 kW solar project. The solar panels were generously donated by Helios, and we would like to give a big thanks to them! RRF will save 30% off of their energy bill in during year 1 while joining the clean energy movement!

 

The Impact of Your Donations: Empowerment

   It's 2017 and people are still not sure of how to best support the clean energy movement. At the same time, community members struggle to see how they can make collective impact. RE-volv solves this by providing the opportunity for individuals to contribute to the clean energy revolution and to watch their donations make an impact on RE-volv’s platform. People across the country can view how many watts of energy they have generated and how many pounds of CO2 they have prevented from entering the atmosphere, leading to progress and empowerment.

 

 

How RE-volv Works?

   RE-volv is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco that generates money for solar projects by crowdfunding money to cover the upfront costs for solar projects at nonprofits and co-operatives. These local organizations pay back RE-volv through a 20-year lease-to-own contract while saving money compared to their previous utilities bill. The payments to RE-volv enters the Solar Seed Fund that in return funds future solar projects.

   RE-volv sets up these installation projects with the help of teams of student volunteers called Solar Ambassadors. The Solar Ambassadors find and connect organizations interested in solar installation and run the crowdfunding campaigns to raise money for the projects. At the same time, the students are also providing educational events to empower the community. There are currently seven teams across the country.
