BALTIMORE, Md. — Housing Unlimited has received the 2026 Collaborative Partnership Award from the Community Development Network of Maryland (CDN) for its Rooftop Solar Program developed with Montgomery County Green Bank, RE-volv and GreenBrilliance. CDN recognized the initiative at its Annual Meeting and Awards on Monday, October 26, in Baltimore.
The collaboration is bringing solar to more than 40 Housing Unlimited townhomes across Montgomery County. With most systems already producing electricity as of May 2026, the completed initiative will represent more than 270 kW of solar capacity and is projected to avoid over 5,000 tons of carbon emissions.
RE-volv and Montgomery County Green Bank financed and developed the project, while GreenBrilliance designed and installed the rooftop systems. RE-volv’s Purchase Power Agreement model allows Housing Unlimited to access electricity at a rate below standard utility costs. The nonprofit expects more than $500,000 in net savings over 25 years, which it plans to reinvest into housing and services for adults in mental health recovery.
Housing Unlimited owns 96 scattered-site homes in Montgomery County and houses 263 adults in mental health recovery. Their staff visit each home weekly to inspect for cleanliness and maintain strong communications with its tenants. The organization intends to use savings from the rooftop solar program to expand its housing capacity and resident support.
The initiative also received support through a grant to RE-volv from REVERB, funded through Billie Eilish’s Changemaker Program. A video featuring Housing Unlimited residents and the rooftop solar project is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdSewnWvmcU.
The Community Development Network of Maryland works to promote, strengthen and advocate for the community development sector across Maryland’s urban, suburban and rural communities. Its annual awards recognize work advancing that sector.
The video includes firsthand accounts of the role of stable housing and solar energy in residents’ lives.
